Our minds are a key part of our entire livelihood. Without a healthy brain that is functioning properly, our physical health is only partially complete. And while modern medicine can help improve overall brain health, there are plenty of natural remedies that can have a dramatic impact as well.

The Importance Of Protecting Memory

When it comes to mental function, one area that needs to be working at its best in order to live a full life is memory. Whether it’s something as simple as forgetting where you put the keys or something more severe like marked cognitive memory loss, protecting your brain’s ability to remember things is important.

The importance of improving memory is obvious, and can have long-term impacts on your quality of life including helping you perform better at work, build stronger social connections, maintain healthy family relationships, and avoid depression. As such, it’s important to take steps to promote better memory.

There are plenty of different ways that you can go about promoting better memory for yourself. While a majority of these steps involve things like avoiding drugs and alcohol or eating healthier, one that is also worth looking at is rosemary essential oil.

One study conducted by the University of Northumbria’s psychology department conducted an experiment using two essential oils – lavender and rosemary. In the study, people 65 years of age or older were assigned to sit in one of three different rooms. Each of these rooms was scented differently – one with rosemary, one with lavender, and one with no scents at all.

Once in the rooms, the senior citizens were given various tests that looked at memory function and overall memory performance. Out of these tests, it was determined that rosemary had the most profound impact on the memory of the test subjects. Findings included:

  • Lavender led to increased calmness and overall feelings of contentment
  • Rosemary triggered improved memory as well as increased alertness

This isn’t the first time that rosemary has been studied, either. Additional tests have found that rosemary could stimulate activity in brain tissue due to various compounds found within the plant. These compounds are believed to have a direct impact on brain chemistry, which in turn can trigger the improved functionality and better memory.

There are additional essential oils that can help with memory, too. The most important one to add to your daily regimen alongside rosemary is peppermint, and studies have consistently found that peppermint essential oil can help with improved alertness, better brain function, and improved memory as well. While the studies are ongoing, it certainly seems that the one-two combo of rosemary and peppermint could help improve brain function and memory in people of any age – but especially older citizens.

So how do you go about improving your mental performance through the use of rosemary? The simplest answer is to use a diffuser. Adding a few drops of the rosemary oil to a diffuser and letting the scent fill your room is enough to start triggering the changes in the brain that can lead to better brainpower.

Things To Remember

There are a few points to keep in mind, however. If you want to achieve better memory, it’s worth it to remember the following points.

  • First of all, understand that nothing works instantly for improving memory. Instead, you should expect results over time. Create the right essential oil diffuser experience and use it regularly. Eventually, you’ll begin to notice improvements.

  • While the science certainly supports using essential oils for things like improving your memory, additional steps like the previously mentioned cessation of drug use and avoidance of alcohol, or things like eating a healthier diet, sufficient sleep and drinking water regularly all can also help lead to better results.

  • Finally, keep in mind that severe memory loss could be a sign of a more serious condition. Using rosemary essential oil can certainly help promote a healthy memory, but it’s always a good idea to talk to a medical professional if significant problems persist.

If you’ll keep these key tips in mind and use a high-quality, pure rosemary essential oil in your nebulizing oil diffuser, you will promote better memory for yourself and your entire family. Pure essential oils can have a positive impact on the mind, and they’re well worth using.
